Call to artists
Elm tree transformation
The Festival du Voyageur invites Manitoba’s professional artists to present proposals to transform an elm tree in Whittier Park, Winnipeg, Manitoba, located on Treaty One Territory that has been infected with Dutch elm disease. The unveiling of the work is planned for August 2017.
The Festival is looking for an artist who is interested in creating a permanent art piece. We will undertake tests to determine the exact age of the tree, but we estimate that it is more than 200 years old. Since the Festival du Voyageur celebrates the history of the fur trade and our vibrant Franco-Manitoban community, we would like the sculpture to be inspired by and celebrate the heritage of the region and our community.
